March 28 Fish Climb and Serve Trip report

On Friday March 28 I was able to take 4 middle schoolers on a day of Rock climbing at Emigrant Lake with Out of the Boat Adventures.  Justin Park, Keith Fawcett and two of Keith's friends Jacob and Nathan were the climbers.  We met at the YMCA at 8:00am filled out the necessary paperwork and loaded into the van and drove to Emigrant Lake near Ashland.  The weather looked a little iffy but we decided to go for it.  When we got to the climbing area I distributed equipment and we did our safety briefing and intro to adventure camp.  Then we hiked about 5 minutes to the crag.  I set up some climbs in the 5.3 to 5.6 range.  It was very windy but at the base of the climb there was some shelter.  Every one climbed allot and even when it started to sprinkle  and eventually snow the boys just kept on climbing.  After a great day of challenge and adventures we headed back to the car to debrief.  This was a great time of processing the experience and talking about what we can learn from God's Word  through and understand through our experience with the challenge of rock climbing and especially climbing in inclement weather.  We drove back to the YMCA played a little basketball to warm up, then the boys went with Cory to get some food and hang out.  At 6:30pm we met at the church and Joseph and Mark rode out to the Manzanita rest stop to serve at the I-5 coffee trailer.  Cory and the four boys who went climbing met us there and we had a great time serving coffee and interacting with the travelers that came through.  There was even an opportunity to help an injured homeless man who had been hit by a car the night before.  We worked until 10:00pm then headed back to the church for parent pickup.  It was a great day of fun and serving the Lord with the youth.  Hope to see you there next time.

Winter Wipe-Out Trip Report

Hey all, here is a trip report to update everyone on how the winter Wipe-out went.  Cory and I took five middle school boys; Joseph, Aaron, Julian, Kieth, and Justin to Union Creek Resort and Crater Lake National Park.  We met at the church just before 4:00pm Friday loaded up and hit the road.  We stopped at Phill's Frosty for dinner and had some good food and fellowship.  Then we continued to Union Creek Resort.  Upon arrival we unloaded and picked rooms.  Then we had a good time of worship through singing and music.  After the singing time we had a session on Spiritual gifts and we all did a discover your spiritual gifts survey.  This lead To a lot of positive feedback and generated some excitement in the group.  We all realized that God has gifted us all as the body of Christ and all of us have different gifts that work together in unity to build up the body.  After the first session the students hit the snow outside the lodge even though it was raining.  Since rain was probable, we weighed out options we decided that Crater Lake would be a very suitable option and then we all went to bed.  The next morning we got up and crossed the street to eat breakfast at Beckie's.  They give you alot of food and the pancakes are enormous.  We had some good table talk then suited up for the snow.  The 45 minute drive gave us a great opportunity to further study God's word and discuss how we could use our newly discovered spiritual gifts.  The top three choices from the students were to start supporting a compassion child, visit an inner city area to see and help some of the needs there, and to do some type of mission/ service trip.  The five students in attendance have the challenge to head up one or more of these projects with the support of the youth staff and youth group.  When we to Crater Lake National Park we signed up for a ranger lead snowshoe hike and then headed up to the rim.  We did some sledding and snow playing, then we met the ranger for the 90 minute hike.  He told us alot about the snow and geology as well as the critter that live in the winter environment of the park.  After the Snowshoe we ate some hot dogs, chili, and tortilla chips in the observation room then we grabbed our tube and headed to best tube hill in the northwest.  We tubed and sledded and Joseph Webber caught some big air.  We loaded back up in the suburban and gave a ride to two snowshoer's in need.  We returned to the church and unloaded.  The weekend was a great success and the students were challenged further in their walk and relationship with God.

God is Your Story Writer

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry.

He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.

He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.

Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord. –Psalm 40:1-3

Often times I have wanted to share my faith with others, but I was anxious about doing so.
"What will I say?" I wondered.  "How can I win them for Christ?"

This passage clears that all up.  You see, my focus was all wrong.  After the Psalmist gets done talking about how the Lord has rescued him, he says that God put a new song in his mouth and it was a hymn of praise.

See, we don't need to worry about what to say, or how to say it.  When other people fall into the slimy pit, they have no one to rescue them.  When they get themselves into trouble, all of their friends leave them and find somebody who looks more successful.  However, when we fall into the mud and mire, we have a Friend who cares enough about us to lift us up and put us back on solid ground.

Tell your story to your friend today.  Do you really want him to spend another day in the slimy mud of life without somebody to lift him up?  Your friends need Jesus as much as you do.  Don't wait, because tomorrow could be too late.

Happy New Year FISH!

Its 2008 what is God calling you to do this year.  Maybe it is inviting your friend to Tuesday nights or Sunday mornings.  Possibly it could be to spend more time in His Word or in prayer.  Tuesday night Fishing we have been studying the journey through the wilderness of the Israelites.  Sundays we are getting into our study of the book of Philippians.  Through both studies we have seen how God continues to challenge us as we journey with Him in all of life's experiences.  Keep it up and keep your focus on Christ and His mission for you.
